Kadir Has University and Koç University rowing teams competed for the 10th time for friendship in the 100th year of the Republic. The Haliç Friendship Cup rowing race started this year in front of the Kadir Has University Cibali Campus and ended in front of the Rahmi M. Koç Museum. Young athletes rowed an average of 36 times per minute for friendship. The team that won the 10th Haliç Friendship Cup was the Kadir Has University rowing team with a score of 7 minutes and 17 seconds.
The young people who came together on Saturday, October 28 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic with sports and friendship completed their final preparations for the 2,100-meter course. In the race that started in front of the Kadir Has University Cibali Campus at 10:00 and ended in front of the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, the Kadir Has University team consisted of coach Burkay Günay and helmsman Melike İdil Çalışkan, while Necmi Batuhan Acar, Görkem Tekoğlu, Metehan Kara, Emirhan Yıldırım, Emre Keklik, Enver Erman, Berkay Öztürk and Murat Alp Yardım rowed. The Koç University rowing team consisted of coach Yalçın Fidancı, helmsman Toprak Ata Kıvrak, Salihcan Kahraman, Ahmet Deniz Aydın, Nejat Işık, Mahmut Yusuf Güşlü, Onur Sapmaz, Cem Berk Görmüş, Furkan Polat and Emir Saygılı.
Kadir Has University President Prof. Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz said in his speech at the ceremony, “I would like to thank Koç University and Kadir Has University rowing team students who presented the best example of celebrating the 100th anniversary of our Republic. My greatest wish is for this friendship cup between the two universities to continue for the next decades of the Republic. Our friendship is eternal, but it is very nice and proud to win the cup once again in my fifth year.”
Speaking at the award ceremony, Koç University President Prof. Dr. Metin Sitti said, “It is great to be a part of this sports event that has celebrated very important values such as sportsmanship and discipline for 10 years… I am also very pleased to be a part of such a beautiful event in this month when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Republic and the 30th anniversary of our university.”
