Family Tree: Re-Discover the Tradition through Your Family

Hosted by the KHAS Industrial Design Department and supported by the EU Creative Europe fund, this workshop, carried out within the scope of the reDiscover project, aims to produce creative solutions to preserve cultural traditions, handicrafts and motifs and bring them closer to the urban population of the 21st century.

Why is it important to preserve our cultural heritage and traditions in an increasingly digital world? Having a past increases people’s personal awareness and helps them feel rooted in their place in the world. Although it is not easy for modern people to connect with their ancestors, understand their world, and think about them, we can understand the art of old times through the memories and family history that generations have passed down. Focusing on accessing and preserving traditional arts based on family history, the first half of the 5-day workshop will feature participants attending a handicraft workshop led by Hungarian leather designer Réka Farkas, demonstrating traditional leather techniques, while the second half of the project will feature them creating and producing a contemporary design object using leather. The project outputs will be published on the official project website.

Those who want to participate in the workshop can apply by sending their name/surname, university/class, and telephone information to aysecoskun@khas.edu.tr.
