COMM Talks: Erdinc Utku

About the Speaker: Erdinç Utku is a graduate of METU Business Administration Department. He holds a Master’s Degree in “Development Economics” from Antwerp University in Belgium. He worked as a lecturer at Muğla University for a short time during his doctoral studies at the same university. He has been writing Sunday columns for Cumhuriyet newspaper since 1992, where he shares his impressions of Brussels.

Utku, who started humor in 1985 and whose jokes were published in various publications, has been publishing his aphorisms satirizing current affairs in his column Yüksek Yerilim Hattı, which started as a daily column on the Vaziyet page in 1993 and later became a column on the Ciddiiyet page. The writer wrote sketches for the TRT Ekonomi Dosyası program in the 90s. He contributed to the comedy program called “Alıştık Artık” (We Got Used to It Now).

He was the general coordinator of the monthly Turkish newspaper Binfikir, which they published in Belgium, and wrote about the Belgian agenda in the column called “Brüksel H@ttı”. He wrote and directed children’s plays and staged cabarets in the Binfikir Theater, which he founded with his wife in Belgium. He has three published books on humor. His book Yüksek Yerilim Hattı is expected to be published by Cumhuriyet Kitapları these days.

Living in Brussels, the author is the general artistic director of Binfikir Theatre and is also the Vice President of the European Turkish Journalists Association.
