The report titled “Natural Gas Exploitation in the Eastern Mediterranean: A Holistic Approach”, Prof. Dr. Volkan Ş. Ediger It was prepared under the leadership of Kadir Has University Center for Energy and Sustainable Development (CESD) interns Rahma Elfeky and Dimitrios Karampalis, with the contributions of CESD Visiting Researcher Dr. John Bowlus and Energy and Sustainable Development Master’s Program graduates Hazal Mengi and Sadık Erkan Tan. The report was published with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Türkiye Office.
The study aims to systematically evaluate the activities in the Eastern Mediterranean region regarding the exploration, discovery, production and export of natural gas and the demarcation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from a holistic perspective. The effects of these activities on the economies, policies and strategies of the Eastern Mediterranean countries at international, regional and global levels are also examined in the study. The report uses the results of qualitative and quantitative media analysis of six newspapers, two from Egypt, two from Greece and two from Turkey, to identify critical moments in the “Eastern Mediterranean Gas Assessment System” (EMGES).
