Addiction and its Types

What is Addiction?
The word addiction means ‘to devote’ and is Latin. Addiction means getting used to using a substance to the point of losing control. Just as a person starts communicating with the outside world and forming bonds with those around them from infancy, they also reach the substance they will be addicted to from the environment. The things a person can be addicted to can be any object, technology, cigarettes, alcohol, substance, or behavior. Staying away from the substances they are addicted to for a long time causes the person to feel bad and incomplete. Behavioral deterioration may occur after becoming addicted. Addiction is known as one of the biggest health problems in the current process we are in. The location of this disease in the body is the brain.

An individual starts to use a substance they use willingly as an addict due to neurochemical changes in their brain. The substance they use is now a need for the individual to feel good. Addiction causes physical and psychological problems in the person. It affects the individual’s communication with those around them and their behavior in society.

Who is Addicted?
An addict is a person who constantly feels deprived of the substance he/she is addicted to more than necessary. Over time, the degree of addiction may increase and the person wants to use the thing he/she is addicted to more frequently. Addiction is a disease that brings continuity. The person wants to use the thing he/she is addicted to constantly.

How Does Addiction Form?
As a result of frequent use of a substance, the brain experiences problems in its working system due to the damage to the dopamine hormone usage process. Addiction to the substance occurs in this incorrect functioning of the brain.

The beginning of addiction usually starts with the person being curious about something. The person thinks that he/she is in control and can quit the substance he/she is addicted to whenever he/she wants. However, this is not as easy a process as he/she thinks, wondering about this substance and trying it. His/her body is addicted to that substance and feels obliged to do so in order to feel good.

Can Addiction Be Treated?
Yes, addiction is a treatable patient. Even if the person is treated, he/she should not meet with the people from his/her family or friends who caused him/her to start using the substance he/she is addicted to, or those people should also be treated. Otherwise, the person may start the treatment again and the addiction process may show itself again.
