Özet: Although deliberate forms of future thinking have been extensively studied, covering theory, cognitive mechanisms and applications, research on spontaneous future thinking remains in its infancy. In this talk, I will synthesise data from mind wandering, prospective memory and future thinking, and present a dual process theory of future thinking. I will also summarise some recent ways that spontaneous future thinking has been used to understand and improve mental health.
