About the Museum of Islamic Civilizations
The Museum of Islamic Civilizations, which was established to exhibit previously unexhibited artifacts in the context of Islamic Civilizations, is located in Çamlıca on a two-storey area of 11,000 square meters. In addition to 8000 square meters of exhibition space, the museum has a reception/ticketing area, café/restaurant, museum store, temporary exhibition area, workshops, conservation and restoration laboratories and storage.
In the exhibition area, there are 800 artifacts and 14 thematic sections describing the artistic and historical development of Islamic civilization from the 7th century to the 19th century. The exhibition design aims to bring together artifacts from different periods in the context of a scenario and story and to form the architectural form. Each showcase is sized according to the requirements of the exhibited artifacts and the spatial organization of the exhibition section. In the exhibition design, the placement of the artifacts according to the exhibition scenario, the display of each artifact in its own context, the design and placement of the exhibition pedestals in a way to highlight the artifacts, and the harmony with the colors of the artifacts in the color choices were taken into consideration. The museum aims to offer a comprehensive storytelling and experience space in the context of Islamic civilization, culture and architecture.
Müzede sergilenen eserler mimari ile bütünleşik görsel/işitsel/sanatsal yerleştirmeler ve geniş grafik anlatımlar ile desteklenerek izleyiciye etkileşimli bir deneyim alanı yaratmaktadır.
The entrance hall is designed as a serene welcoming space that introduces visitors to Islamic architecture before they enter the exhibition space. The column that falls in the center of the space is taken as an architectural reflection of the universality and unity of the Islamic religion and as an interpretation of the ‘Muqarnas’ decoration, and it is spread on the ceiling and floor of the space, referring to the fact that Islam is a religion that embraces all humanity. This section also includes welcome, information and resting areas.
