FENER BALAT CULTURAL TOUR*

*Expert professional badged Turkish language guidance, with guide headset.

Are you ready to spend a beautiful Saturday in the back streets of Istanbul’s most cosmopolitan district?

One of the most important settlements of both the Byzantine and Ottoman periods was the Fener district. Due to its steep slopes, the residents of this district called it Petrion during the Byzantine period. The charming Greek architecture houses that shout “we are also a part of this city” as we go down those steep slopes, and the historical Fener Greek Patriarchate, which provides spiritual leadership to approximately 250 million Orthodox people in the world, are some of the district’s works that can be listed in one go.

The Fener district has long been one of the educational centers of the Greek community.

The Balat district, which takes its name from the word Palation, meaning “palace”, and which carries the sorrow of the Sephardim and creates a Jerusalem atmosphere in the middle of Istanbul with its cosmopolitan structure, is also presented to you in this tour as the Nefs-i Istanbul corner, whose secrets we will share with you.

Route: Meeting in front of Kadir Has University Rezan Has Museum, then Küçük Mustafa Pasha Bath, Gül Mosque (Aya Theodosia Church), Yeni Ayakapı, Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, Aya Yorgi Church, Fener Neighborhood, Dimitri Kantemir’s House (from outside), Women’s Works Library – from outside, Bulgarian Church, Tur-i Sina Metochion (from outside), Balat Square, Ahrida and Yanbol Synagogue (from outside),
