Turkish Economy Talks – Dr. Arzu Çerkezoğlu


Dr. Arzu Çerkezoğlu, President of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK), is the new guest of the Turkish Economy Talks series organized by our Economics Department.

The minimum wage should be the base wage that will enable the worker and his/her family to live humanely according to the economic and social conditions of the day, that is compatible with human dignity, and that is determined by scientific objective methods and reliable data. So what is the situation in our country?

Çerkezoğlu, a medical doctor, human rights activist and trade unionist, was born in Artvin in 1969. Çerkezoğlu graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and completed his specialization in Pathology in 2004. He took part in the trade union struggle of health workers, serving three terms as Branch President of Tüm Sağlık Sen and then of the Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (SES), and as Secretary General of DISK. On May 29, 2018, he was elected President of DISK, replacing the previous president Kani Beko.
