The new book by Dr. Coşku Çelik, Extractivism Across Production and Social Reproduction

Dr. Lecturer Coşku Çelik, one of our academics in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, has published her new book, Extractivism Across Production and Social Reproduction.

The book examines the political economy of extractivism in the Global South through processes of production and social reproduction. Drawing on over six years of fieldwork, the book argues that natural resource extraction is a multidimensional development strategy and that a holistic analysis of this strategy requires attention to the following elements:

• The importance of the relevant natural resource for macro development plans and global value chains,
• Labor processes in sectors based on natural resource extraction
• Gender-based division of labor in rural households and rural labor markets,
• Labor processes and labor control strategies in the fields of production and social reproduction.
